"Responding
To Reading" This reproducible book (250 pages) contains fifteen units that teachers might use with students who are reading with some independence (usually around the last term of Grade One to the first term of Grade Two). This book provides teachers with an opportunity to introduce their students to genre and author studies. Students will reada story or book of choice then respond, in writing, to what they have read. By combining all three grade levels in one book, teachers can choose material that best suits the needs of their students. Each grade level has its own short guide as well as a detailed evaluation sheet. Most units takes five to seven days to complete. In the last term of Grade One, for those students who are reading independently, do one theme study a month in April, May, and June. In Grades Two and Three, students might do one unit a month. Parts of these units can be integrated daily into a Guided Reading program as independent reading activities. Or, these units can be used once a month to enrich and enhance the students’ reading and writing program. Each unit contains: a title page, teaching pictures, a titles recording sheet, and various response sheets. Click on image below to see it larger.
