"Jump into Printing in Grade One"

Every year, many primary teachers spend endless hours modelling proper printing in their students’ books. I wrote "Jump into Printing" to help my students learn beginning printing skills, while at the same time, save preparation time at night.

This reproducible book provides printing practise for every letter of the alphabet. In many instances, I hand-made the font to model letter formation that easily leads into beginning writing skills. On each page, I model the upper and lower case letters, as well as a sample word, so students can learn about proper spacing between letters and words. I illustrated the pictures so the programme also reviews basic phonics skills. This programme works very well with Kindergarten or Grade One students.

Like learning to ride a bike or tie shoes, printing is a skill that needs to be taught and practised. With instruction and practise, students learn to print legibly and neatly--- skills that will last them a lifetime.
