"Jump into Phonics in Grade One"

This reproducible book is a comprehensive phonics programme for Grade One. It reviews all the consonants and short vowels but moves beyond recognition of sound/letter association to identifying the letters and sounds. It also provides many drill activities to apply basic phonics skills.

This book will also help to address a growing concern among primary teachers. Many children entering school have delayed language problems or have weak vocabulary knowledge. "Jump into Phonics" is designed to assist the classroom teacher in addressing these concerns. Many of the illustrations are familiar to most children; however, some illustrations have been deliberately included to enhance vocabulary knowledge and stimulate discussion. In addition, many items such as computers, microscopes and video cameras have been included to increase a student’s awareness of technology.

"Jump into Phonics" includes reproducible material for:

• initial consonants,
• short vowels,
• final consonants,
• blends (sh, th, ch, wh),
• long vowels,
• rhyming word activities,
• plural ‘s’,
• simple reading activities,
• 10 unit tests,
• a vocabulary list.

Used daily as a drill activity, this programme will improve a student’s phonics skills, and enhance reading and writing development.
