"Jump into Spelling, Grammar, And Phonics in Grade Two"

This reproducible book has 315 pages. It contains 36 units of spelling, phonics, word study, punctuation and grammar worksheets that meet ministry guidelines. The spelling words have been carefully chosen. While most of the spelling words used in this book are ones that reflect a Grade Two level, a few are words used in Grade One and some are words commonly taught in Grade Three.

This book includes many extra features that can be used by teachers and parents to help students improve their basic language skills.

There are over 40 teaching pictures in the book that teachers can photocopy, mount on coloured Bristol board, laminate, then use for teaching and review purposes. These teaching pictures could also be sent home to assist parents who wish to review or reinforce skills taught at school.

To assist with planning and testing, the book includes elements for teachers such as long range plans, ten unit tests, observation sheets, recording sheets and an easy to use teacher's guide.

The student dictionary/word bank can be used with Journal writing, as a sight word review or as a resource for spelling drills for home or school. The dictionary is also a good resource to assist students with writing activities at home.

The 36 sets of flash cards can be copied and send home for spelling word drills. The cards can be used to play spelling/memory games to improve accuracy and retention.

The key to improving spelling skills is two fold: word drills that involve oral and written spelling review and lots of writing activities that stress on-going editing as a daily element.

If young students are taught, "It's not wrong---just not finished yet," they will approach spelling as a challenge that should be enjoyed---not feared.

To improve basic language skills, young students need an environment rich in language spoken fluently and clearly by teachers and parents.

When children hear good language daily, their spoken language improves. When school and home put an emphasis on strong spelling skills, students will see a need to focus on spelling skills and put more effort into becoming a better speller.

Spelling is a skill that involves life-long learning and is one that is with us all our lives.
