"Jump Into Reading Skills In Grade One" This Grade One reading skills book has 213 reproducible worksheets covering four of the Grade One reading strands. The other reading strand (Understanding of Form and Style) is one that should be covered each day orally as each new story is introduced. As well, skills for that strand are addressed in another of my books, "Reading Response Units For Primary Students." This reading skills book is meant to be used after "Grade One... Day Two... Now What Do I Do?" my beginning reading program for the first six weeks of Grade One. Included in this book are long range plans, term by term student checklists, vocabulary lists by term, 17 teaching pages, 30 units and 12 end of unit tests. I've also included a detailed guide that explains the reading process in very practical terms. As well, I've outlined how to organize multiple reading groups in a workable, effective plan. "Jump Into Reading Skills in Grade One" is compatible with any existing reading series or program such as Guided Reading. It is meant to supplement a wide variety of classroom reading series. Using this reproducible book, the teacher can make reading booklets that will suit the needs of his/her students. The material meets (and in some strands surpasses) ministry guidelines. Students will respond very favourably to the clear, child-oriented graphics. The text of the book has been written using the new KAE Primary Printing Font. This font, developed by our company, matches primary printing and makes it easier for young printers to master beginning printing skills. Activities for each reading skill are repeated over several months giving students lots of opportunity to practice and master beginning reading skills. By using this program daily, students will also expand their writing skills as reading and writing skills are so intermingled. The teaching guide should be very helpful to beginning as well as experienced teachers as it lays out in a clear, concise manner an approach to reading that works.
